History of Bensalem Nottingham, Bensalem, PA

Bensalem, a small town in the heart of Pennsylvania, has an interesting history stretching back to its founding over 300 years ago. Originally named Nottingham, the area was first settled by William Penn in 1682 and was soon renamed Bensalem Township after Penn's father. In 1854, the township was incorporated as a borough and given its current name.

Over the centuries, Bensalem has been home to many different industries including farming, lumber production, brick-making and even silver mining. The town also served as an important stop on the Underground Railroad during the Civil War. In recent decades, Bensalem has transformed into a bustling suburban community with shopping centers, parks and restaurants. Today it is known for being an excellent place to live and raise a family while still maintaining strong ties to its rich past.
